Our Story

Nearly 40 years ago, in 1981, Tom and Josh drove down a dirt road in Providence and saw a little brick building facing the river. They envisioned a place where everybody could gather, for drinks and fun on the waterfront. 

The kind of place where everyone’s welcome, whether you’re in a suit and tie coming in from the courthouse down the street, or in scrubs coming off their shift in one of the hospitals, or in jeans coming down from College Hill. 

When they went for the permits, the city told them they were crazy. Who wants to have a drink on the river in the Ocean State?
